After the Flood: Indreni's Visit to the Survivors of Bidur-10, Nuwakot, Nepal
On August 29, our Indreni Children’s Home team travelled to Nuwakot with food and relief materials for flood-affected families.
When we arrived, we spoke with a government employee who told us that some affected communities were still not receiving enough relief. She advised us to go directly to the temporary shelter where displaced families were staying.
So we changed our plan.
We took the safer, longer route and travelled to Bidur Municipality Ward No. 10, where flood-affected families had been moved to Sundari Kyourini Secondary School in Betrawati-Bhainse.
What we saw there was very different from what we had imagined.
According to the information and records we saw at the site, around 800 houses were in the affected area, with more than 300 reportedly swept away or completely destroyed.
Many had lost their homes, clothes, food and household belongings.
We were also told that more than 400 people were still missing from the affected area. These figures were shared with us locally and should be confirmed through official records.
During our visit, we also learned that Ramchandra Basic School in Bidur Ward No. 10 had been swept away by the flood, leaving children without their normal place of education.
We spoke with Ward Chairperson Ganesh Kumar Nepal, who told us that the displaced families were still facing serious shortages of food, clothes, blankets and proper shelter. The ward had moved them to the school because it was a safer place, but it was only a temporary solution.
Indreni delivered:
🍚 50 sacks of rice
🥘 100 packets of beaten rice and 100 packets of dalmoth
🫗 100 litres of cooking oil
🍜 20 boxes of noodles
🍪 10 boxes of biscuits
🧂 2 sacks of salt
We have support for Nuwakot Ward No. 10, but the need does not stop there. Many more communities are still struggling, with families waiting for support and hope. There are more places to reach, more families to help, and more lives depending on our collective action.

Born Out of Real Childhoods in Nepal
Indreni grew from the vision of founders who lived through childhood poverty in Nepal themselves, without family support. In 2006, they built the home they once needed.
Indreni is the Nepali word for rainbow. Like a rainbow, every child who comes through our doors carries their own colour, their own story and their own destiny. They are living together under one roof at our Indreni Homes, where we step in and help in all areas of Child’s development.
