New school
We have successfully moved the first few classes of children into their new school! This means better facilities, more space, more bathrooms for boys and girls and a safer environment to learn in. This school we be able to educate 1000+ children. The majority of the children are from the local area of Sundarijal, 7km outside of Kathmandu. Schools in Nepal are fee-paying, so the local children’s families will pay to attend the school. There are multiple benefits of this new school. One central benefit being that the funds received from attendees provide income for Indreni, moving us to a more sustainable financial model, less dependant on Western donations. This also means that the Indreni children who are living in the Indreni homes, will get access to free education.
RamHari’s Sustainable Vision for Indreni
RamHari’s vision is for a more sustainable future for Indreni, in a number of ways. The vegetable farm already generates revenue for Indreni on the local market, and supplies the majority of the vegetables eaten by the children in both Indreni homes. Also, RamHari’s vision is to create projects that generate income for Indreni from within Nepal, that will reduce Indreni’s dependance on western donations.
What’s next?
Our goal is to raise funds to to finish the school so that we can educate more children, giving them better access to top quality education in the local area. Currently there are 4 stories completed structurally. What’s needed now is to complete flooring on all levels, in classrooms and in the library in order to be able to educate children safely. Funds are needed to build the outer boundary for protecting the small children from the busy street nearby, the school yard and finishing the stairs on all levels. All these requirements are so that we are in compliance with building standards in Kathmandu.
Breakdown of Costs:
We’d love your support with this project and have a goal of raising roughly €128,259 to complete the project. Below is a rough breakdown of costs:
Completing Stairs on all floors: €39,319
Electrics: €20,000
Plastering, Paint and Underground: €7,681
Outer Boundary for safety, Playground and Basketball court: €44,319
We accept financial support, advice, expertise and guidance from anyone interested in helping children in Nepal and to continue Ramhari’s vision of giving more children access to a safe education.
